Puli

The Puli is a unique breed of dog noted for its unique hairstyle, a long, corded coat. This dog is of Hungarian herding and livestock guarding dog. This hairstyle, which is similar to dreadlock, makes it waterproof.

Pulis are solid-colored dogs and the most common coat color is black, but there are also white, gray and cream. Pulis with white coat usually has blue eyes. This dog’s coat can be trimmed short regularly for easy maintenance but the corded coat is what attracts many people to the breed. Trimming is sometimes not recommended because sometimes the cat will never grow out again.

Poodles have the weirdest-looking hairstyle among the many breeds of dogs. Despite their odd appearance, poodles are highly intelligent dogs. They are regarded as the 2nd most intelligent breed next to the Border Collie.

Komondor

Like Pulis, Komondor have weird-looking coats too. The Komondor, which is much larger than Puli, is a large white-colored breed of livestock guardian dog from Hungary.

Because of their unusual hairstyle, Komondor are sometimes referred to as Mop Dogs. This powerful dog breed has a natural guarding instinct that makes it excellent livestock and other property guard.

The unique dreadlock coat of the Komondor must have developed under a dry and extreme temperature climate. This extremely unusual coat provides superb protection against cold and hot weather for the Komondor, but is not too comfortable in wet weather.

Bergamasco Shepherd

Like Pulis and Komondor, Bergamascos are unique for their coat. This breed of dog is distinct for its peculiar felted coat. Originally used as a herding dog, Bergamasco originated in Bergamo in the Italian Alps, hence the name.

The weird and unique coat of the Bergamasco is a normal and healthy characteristic of the breed which is characterized by 3 types of hair; abundant, mats and flocks.

Irish Water Spaniel

    I felt so hoooot when I saw these dogs especially the komondor. But I guess they thrive in cold climates. I know Obama's dog is a Portuguese Water Dog that's why it suddenly became popular in the US.

    Oh boy! glad that my Maggie girl does need any hair maintenance. Those are still the cutest 🙂 I bet it cost a fortune to trim them.

    I'm most interested in the Puli. How can they even see with their hair so long that it completely covers their eyes. Lol!

    Puli and Komondor really looked like mops and we do have a poodle but mixed with other breed which is a Japanese Spitz.. 😀
